SAT

SATJust as a student starts building their vocabulary and learning new words in grade school, their vocabulary education comes to a head as they start to study and prep for the SAT test so they can get into a good college. The SAT is divided into three sections now, a math section, a vocabulary and critical reading section, and a vocabulary and essay writing section.

Study and prep for the critical reading vocabulary section includes sentence word completions and passage based literature reading comprehension. Study and prep for the essay writing vocabulary section should include grammar, vocabulary usage, and word choice. The analogies have been removed from the vocabulary section of the test in place of an essay writing section. Either option for the vocabulary section would adequately force students to study vocabulary words in prep for the college entrance test known as the SAT, but it was believed the analogies were too confusing and were replaced instead with reading comprehension of literature passages and essay writing. Some people think the SAT college entrance test should not have been changed.

SAT analogies were the questions that took the form bird is to nest as beaver is to… and the student taking the SAT college entrance test, at least the student who was sure to study and do all their SAT prep work, would know to select dam as the correct answer. A good command of vocabulary and word usage helps in study and prep for SAT analogies, or would have, if they were still a part of the test.

Reading literature is another good way to build your vocabulary. That is why the SAT test now includes an enhanced reading comprehension and sentence completion sections to test a student’s ability to study and prep for this vocabulary and word section of the SAT college entrance exam.
